[C] Trial transcript of María Francisca and subsequent memos (1771-1774)
Full description
Maria Francisca was tried for idolatrous witchcraft in 1771. A surface reading of this source leaves us with the impression that this is a classic case of witchcraft-hunting that was so common in northern Europe and the North American colonies during the preceding century. Yet, Maria Francisca demonstrates that while she is vulnerable, she is far from helpless.
